Academician C.Y. Cyrus Chu.'s Personal Profiles

Professor C.Y. Cyrus Chu was born in Taipei on October 29, 1955. He graduated from the Department of Business Administration of the National Taiwan University in 1978, and served two years of military service before continuing his studies abroad. With fellowship support from the Ministry of Education, he pursued graduate studies at the University of Michigan and received his Ph.D. in economics in 1985. Upon returning to Taiwan, he joined the faculty at the National Taiwan University, and also worked as a Joint-appointment Research Fellow at the Institute of Economics of Academia Sinica. In 1999, Prof. Chu accepted the Director-General position at the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences of the National Science Council.

In June 2000, he became the first Distinguished Research Fellow of the Institute of Economics at Academia Sinica, and was appointed Vice President of Academia Sinica two months later. In October 2003 he was relieved of the burden of vice presidency. Now he is also professor of economics and accounting in National Taiwan University.
